Representative Pramila Jayapal was there again to encourage us to keep fighting. By now, Trump has fully embraced the idea of being a king. He even posted an AI-generated video of himself wearing a crown and flying a “King Trump” jet that dumped feces on the protesters below.
Then, on Monday, he began demolishing the East Wing of the White House. In itself, that may not be the most serious crime, but it carries potent symbolism. Osama bin Laden tried to crash a plane into the White House and failed. Our wannabe dictator is building a palace for himself, and to do that, he destroyed the people’s house. (For me, the impact runs even deeper: Romania’s former dictator, Nicolae Ceaușescu, tore down parts of Bucharest’s historic downtown to build his own gilded palace, ironically called “The People’s House.”)
Now we’re heading into the off-year elections on November 4. We’ll see if all the organizing and protesting actually translate into votes.
